Meet Maureen Anbar, a doctoral student pursuing her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology at The Chicago School. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Science in Humanities, Education & Social Science at Purdue University, and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School. Maureen works under the direct supervision of Dr. Neda Safvati, PsyD. #PSY25346.
Maureen began her clinical work supporting those recovering from addiction before transitioning into private practice, where she has provided both in-person and telehealth therapy for adults. Maureen also has experience with diverse populations and prioritizes culturally responsive care. She has experience working with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, complex PTSD, neurodivergence, and life transitions. Maureen is passionate about working with children and adolescents by providing a compassionate and encouraging environment where they can build resilience, strengthen self-confidence, and grow into the individuals they aspire to become.
Maureen takes an integrative evidence-based approach to therapy drawing from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and psychodynamic therapy to meet each person's needs. She helps individuals develop practical skills in emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness while also exploring deeper patterns, unconscious processes, and relationship dynamics that influence emotional well-being and their personal growth.
Maureen approaches therapy as a collaborative process that is built on trust, authenticity, and curiosity. She strives to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where individuals feel heard and empowered to navigate life's challenges and create meaningful, lasting change. Maureen strives to bring comfort and fluency in talking about emotions and experiences that may feel unique. Her doctoral dissertation explores and compares attachment styles across individualistic and collectivistic cultures.
