Anais Nahapetyan, M.A.

Young woman smiling against a gray wall.

Clinical Psychology Doctoral Student

Meet Anais Nahapetyan, a doctoral student pursuing her PsyD in Clinical Psychology at Alliant International University, California School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles. She earned her Associate degrees in Social and Behavioral Sciences and STEM from Pierce College and Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from California State University, Northridge.

Anais has experience providing community-based and clinical mental health services to children, adolescents, and families. She began her training at the Estrada Courts Boys and Girls Club, where she provided community psychology services through milieu therapy and facilitated psychoeducational workshops and wellness-focused interventions designed to promote social-emotional development and overall well-being among youth. She expanded her clinical experience in a non-profit community mental health setting, providing individual and family therapy to children and their families. She utilizes an integrative, evidence-based approach tailored to each client’s unique needs. She has experience working with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds and is dedicated to fostering a collaborative and culturally responsive environment.

As a first-generation Armenian American, Anais is passionate about expanding access to culturally responsive mental health care while addressing stigma in underserved populations. Her doctoral dissertation focuses on maternal mental health among Armenian families with particular emphasis on the stigma surrounding seeking mental health services during the postpartum period. Her clinical and research interests include child and adolescent mental health, psychological assessment, neurodevelopmental and learning disorders, executive functioning, maternal mental health, intergenerational and family dynamics, and advancing equitable access to culturally responsive mental health care.

Please note that Tiny Steps is not a crisis center; our focus is on providing mental health services for routine care related to mild and moderate diagnoses. Your mental health is our top priority. If you are experiencing severe symptoms or distress, or need immediate therapy, please call the National Suicide Hotline at 800-273-8255 or the NAMI crisis line at 800-854-7711. In the case of a life-threatening emergency, dial 911 or 988, or head to your nearest emergency room immediately.
